It has come to our attention that there are a number of rogue emails currently being circulated claiming to be from HMRC. These emails are advising people that they have overpaid on their tax and that they are due a tax rebate. We would like to make it clear to all our clients that this is a scam, and the emails are not genuine. These emails provide an online form for people to complete, asking for personal and bank details. Under no circumstances should you complete and submit this online form and if you receive any such emails we urge you to delete them straight away. If you receive an email from This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it entitled: Tax Payment: Overpayment Refund, please delete it as it is fraudulent. If you have already received this email and completed a form providing your details, please contact your bank or credit card provider ASAP. Government Agencies will not ask for your personal details by email. HMRC do not hold any tax payers email addresses and if you are due a tax rebate, HMRC will notify you by a letter which you will receive through the post. With the Internet being an integral part of modern life, scams, identity and card cloning and online fraudulent activity is rife. Fraudsters are extremely clever and are able to create online correspondence that appears to be the real thing. It is imperative that Internet users are vigilant and never supply personal details in response to an email, even if the source appears to be genuine. If you are in any doubt about emails you receive, it is always worth checking directly with the source it claims to be from. |
